Boiled Frogs

FAQ

What Is Boiled Frogs?

This is a two part answer:

1. For me as person and clinician, I took inspiration from the song Boiled Frogs by Alexisonfire. Boiled Frogs symbolizes breaking free from the cycle of clocking in, going through the motions, and being shackled by insurance companies that dictate care but fail to fairly reimburse it. This broken system prioritizes billing codes over patient well-being, forcing therapists to navigate bureaucracy instead of focusing on healing. It’s easy to become numb to the grind, settling into the monotony of a broken system—safe, predictable, but deeply unfulfilling. I knew there had to be more—more impact, more freedom, and more purpose in my work. I refused to let my passion for helping people be suffocated by red tape. Instead, I chose to step away and build a practice where patient care—not paperwork—comes first, and where movement and recovery are guided by what’s truly best for the individual, not an insurance company’s bottom line.

2. The boiled frog syndrome is a metaphor describing how gradual changes can lead to harmful situations without immediate realization—like a frog in slowly heating water that doesn’t notice until it’s too late. In physical therapy, this can be seen in both practitioners and patients. Therapists can slowly burn out under mounting administrative pressures, and patients may neglect small mobility issues until they escalate into major problems. The key is recognizing these gradual declines early and taking proactive steps—whether it's reclaiming autonomy in practice or addressing movement dysfunction before it worsens.
